Laila Nashid

Overview

Laila Nashid’s research focuses on the sociocultural and thematic connections across portrayals of Black girlhood within 19th to 21st century novels written by Black women authors. In addition, she explores how Black girls use social media aesthetics to construct narratives about their own Black girlhood and how such narratives (un)align with those written by Black women authors. She approaches her research in literature and new media through a Black Feminist lens. Her interest in narratives centering Black girlhood carries over to her Young Adult fiction, which has been published by HarperCollins and MacMillan Publishers.
