It is a holiday tradition in the Department of English to sponsor children through the Cornell Elves Program. The Elves Program works with elementary schools in Tompkins County to identify children in need during the holiday gift giving season. Elf Leaders provide profiles for each individual child for Elves (sponsors) to purchase a list of gifts.
This year, through the generosity of staff, students, and faculty members of the English department, the Department of English was able to sponsor four children from two local elementary schools and contribute a monetary donation to the Elves Program. The Cornell English staff organized the collection of funds and had the joy of shopping for each child and wrapping the presents to be delivered. Not only does the Elves program support children in need but it also provides an opportunity to come together as a community.
Although the Department of English has wrapped up their contributions for the season, the Elves Program is still accepting donations. The Elves program invites you to “contribute directly to one of our Elf Leaders” and consider making the Elves Program a part of your holiday tradition.
