Jennifer Egan to read from "The Candy House" on April 13

Novelist and journalist Jennifer Egan’s 2022 novel “The Candy House” was chosen as one of President Obama’s favorite books of 2022.  She will read from “The Candy House” for the Spring 2023 Barbara & David Zalaznick Reading Series on Thurs., April 13 at 5 p.m. in the Schwartz Auditorium, 201 Rockefeller Hall. The Reading Series is sponsored by the Creative Writing Program in the Department of Literatures in English in the College of Arts & Sciences (A&S).

The April 13 reading will be free and open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow the reading. Attendees can purchase copies of “The Candy House” and other books by Egan after the reading, courtesy of Buffalo Street Books.

Egan’s 2017  novel, “Manhattan Beach,” a “New York Times” bestseller, was awarded the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and was chosen as New York City’s One Book One New York read.  Her previous novel, “A Visit From the Goon Squad,” won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Los Angeles Times book prize, and was named one of the best books of the decade by “Time Magazine” and “Entertainment Weekly.”  Also a journalist, she has written frequently in the “New York Times Magazine,” and she recently completed a term as President of PEN America.

Barbara and David Zalaznick’s generous endowment makes it possible for the Creative Writing Program to invite several writers to campus each semester. Invited authors have ranged from debut poets and novelists to nationally and internationally renowned writers.

Masks are encouraged but not required currently on the Cornell campus. For the latest university public health guidelines visit covid.cornell.edu.
