Overview
Andrea Zamora Chavez is a PhD student in the Department of Literatures in English. Her research encompasses 19th- and 20th-century British literature with a special focus on the Gothic, sensation, and detective genres. Andrea’s previous work has asked questions about the relationship between gender, race, and sexuality within these genres. So far, her inquiries have culminated in her M.A. thesis, “Structures of Whiteness: The Gothic House in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century British Women’s Novels,” in which she analyzed whiteness and property in Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre (1847) and Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None (1939). Andrea is also interested in book history and archival materials, which she often incorporates into her work.
